What sunscreen is best for an Australian summer ?

Wednesday, November 16, 2011

I was online this morning and came across a disturbing fact; apparently 1830 people die from skin cancer in Australia every year.

With the mercury said to sky rocket this summer with record breaking temperatures I best make sure I slip, slop and slap. But with the amount of sunscreens out on the market I’m still a bit confused into what Sunscreen’s would work best for my daughter and me.

I brought up the topic at work to get some input into the different Sunscreens that people in my office use, and funnily enough one of the guys in my office actually used to work for one of  Australia’s leading Sunscreen Companies.

He started explaining how sunscreens are categorised into two categories

- Absorbers , which soak up the suns UV rays before they reach the skin &

- Reflectors, which reflect the suns UV rays from the skin.

I had no idea!! I thought all sunscreens where the same. But as he said no matter what sunscreen I end up buying I have to make sure that it has a SPF + of over 30, is water resistant and that I keep re applying every 3 hours.

What sunscreens do you find work best for you?
